There was once a boy who always wore a big black coat. He was never seen without his coat. Even in the middle of a hot summer, he wore the coat. You see he was afraid to show people what he really looked like underneath the coat because he feared that people wouldn’t like him if they knew the truth. He had taken off the coat only once, and when he did, the boys who were with him, had laughed at him. So the boy decided that it would be best to wear his coat all of the time. He felt that no one who really knew him would ever like him.

Have you ever thought that people wouldn’t like you if they knew the truth about you? The Bible tells us that God made us and that He has a special plan for each of us. So, then God must know everything about us. The Bible also tells us that God loves each of us. In the Bible there is a story about a woman who believed that anyone who knew all about her would think badly of her. She learns that even though Jesus knew everything about her, he cared for her. Here is a summary of the story found in John 4.

One hot day, Jesus was very tired and sat by a well. A woman came to the well with her jug to get some water.

Jesus asked, “Can you give Me a drink?”

The woman was surprised. People usually ignored her. Why would Jesus want to talk to her ? The woman didn’t realize that Jesus cared about her and wanted to be her friend.

Jesus told her, “I can give you special water that will make your heart happy forever.”

The woman didn’t understand at first. She thought Jesus meant water for her jug. But Jesus wasn’t talking about water from a well. Jesus meant that she could have God’s love — the kind of love that never runs out.

Then Jesus told her things about her life that only she knew. He talked a little more with the woman and explained how He could forgive her sin and fill her with God’s love. She realized Jesus was very special — the Saviour God had promised.

The woman was so excited that she left her jug at the well and ran to tell everyone in her town, “Come and see Jesus! He knows everything about me!”

Many people came to see Jesus and believed that He was the Saviour of the world too.

Remember that….

  • Jesus knows all about you.
  • Jesus loves you.
  • Jesus wants to be your Saviour!
