In the tenth chapter of the book of Luke, we find a story that Jesus told. Here is the story:
A Jewish man was walking from Jerusalem to Jericho. On the way, some robbers attacked him. They took his clothes, hurt him badly, and left him lying on the road. After some time, a priest came by. Now you would expect that a priest would offer the man help. But, when he saw the man, he just crossed to the other side of the road and kept walking. Then a Levite, another important religious man, came along. He also saw the hurt man but did not stop to help. Finally, a Samaritan came down the road. Samaritans and Jews usually did not get along, but when the Samaritan saw the man, he felt sorry for him. He went over to him, and saw that he was badly hurt. So he took some things out of his bag and cleaned his wounds . Then he lifted the man onto his donkey and took him to an inn.The Samaritan stayed with him that night and took care of him. The next day, he gave the innkeeper some money and said, “Please take care of him. If you spend more, I will pay you when I come back.”Jesus said that the Samaritan did the right thing because he showed kindness and love to the man even though he was not a friend or part of his family.. Then Jesus said that the Samaritan was the good neighbour because he showed kindness and love to the injured man, even though he was not a friend or part of his family. Jesus told his listeners to do likewise. He wants us to act towards others with love and put that love into action.
